Our History
George Mathew
My name is George Mathew,
I was born in a Marthomite family on 31st of May 1965 as the
youngest of seven children. My parents continued in the Marthomite faith. But
when I was 10 years old, my father fell sick and it eventually brought all of
us into the pentecostal belief. From a young age I was a troublemaker to
everyone around me. I did my studies till 10th grade. Later, I went to Mumbai
for further studies. I wanted to continue my studies in the technical field but
I got lost and was trapped in a world of drugs and alcohol. I continued my life
in the worldly way, while my family continued to grow in the Lord. In a short
span of time I went to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and worked there. Afterwards I
returned to Kerala and got married in the year 1998. My wife’s family was also
from a Marthomite background and my father-in-law was an evangelist. He was a
faithful servant of God and did his evangelism faithfully. The moment I became
a part of their family I brought unrest to the entire household as they didn’t
know that I was a drug addict. The unrest led my wife’s family to take refuge
in the pentecostal belief. On January 3rd 1999 we were blessed with our first
daughter and within a year there was a transformation in my life. On 3rd
January 2000 I became a born again Christian through water immersion baptism.
Even though I was born again, I was still entangled in the worldly ways of this
world. My married life was not at peace, we lived a life of unrest. On June
29th 2000 we were blessed with our second daughter. I continued living a broken
life. In order to settle myself and to provide for my family, I started doing
business in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain but everything turned into a failure. I
felt like I could not continue to live like this anymore and on June 20th 2003
I decided to end my life. So I went to Manimala River planning to drown myself.
The river overflows in the month of June but when I went near the river, I
could see that it was completely dry. I later found out that the river was in
fact overflowing at that time. On my way back home, I heard a sound as if
someone was calling me by my name. So I got down to see who was calling me but
I didn’t find anyone. Immediately I saw a white screen in front of me, I felt
like I was seeing my both daughters as orphans. I also started seeing every sin
and crime that I had committed as if they were being written in front of me. It
was around 1:30 a.m. at night, in a deserted place, my legs started shaking, At
that moment I felt in my heart that someone was talking to me, saying that the
way in which I am going would take me to everlasting death, but if I turn
around and accept Him and be transformed He will use me mightily for the
kingdom of God. When I heard this voice, I sat there and cried for a while. I
took my bike and went home and told my wife all that happened to me. Earlier I
used to trouble her while I was drunk, so she listened to me from afar. On that
night we both slept peacefully. Next morning I got up peacefully. Usually, if I
don’t drink in the morning my hands would start shivering, but that morning I
didn’t have any desire to drink or to smoke. After the transformation I started
going for prayer meetings and even to church. When this major change came to my
life, both the families, my wife’s family and mine were very happy. Then I started
working with my father-in-law in his evangelistic work. My father-in-law
started taking me along with him to the villages of Tamil Nadu. When I saw my
father-in-law spending his entire earning for spreading the gospel, I also
desired to be like him. Then my father-in-law bought me a vehicle and I started
evangelist work in the suburban parts of Tamil Nadu. A few youngsters also
joined with me and together we preached the gospel in more than 1200 villages
in Tamil Nadu and I started sharing the word of God. My father-in-law had a
vision to preach the gospel through film ministry. Therefore we partnered with
an organization in USA named CSFM and started sharing the gospel through film
ministry in many Asian and African countries. Now, we are sharing the gospel
through film ministry in 22 states in India. My
father-in-law had a vision and I joined him with the power of the Holy Spirit
and am presently a part of this ministry. Almost 70 servants of God are sharing
the gospel through this ministry.
